Youth Hostel Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina 1952. – 2012. – 60 years of Youth Hostel Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Founder of youth tourism and hostels was German Richard Scherman (1874-1961). He launches idea that schools can be used as hostels for youth tourism during the summer holidays. In Altena was opened the first ordinary youth hostel in 1912. And the next year there were more than 30 hostels in Germany. This idea was extended through European Poland, Netherland, Switzerland, France, England and Scotland. In Amsterdam on 1932. was held the founding congress of the International Youth Hostel Federation.
In our region in Sarajevo on 1920. Was held the founding conference of Youth Hostel Association of Yugoslavia. The first summer camp was opened in 1923.
After the Second World War in 1952. was continued work at the foundation conference of Youth Hostel Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina. From 1968. our association (FSJ) become associated member, and from 1970. full member of IYHF (International Youth Hostel Federation)
